The “Imaging Future — International Creative Pattern Design Competition 2018” hosted by the China Academy of Art (CAA) was exhibited at ZJAM on the afternoon of November 29. Guests attending the opening ceremony included Wu Haiyan, dean and professor of the School of Design of the CAA; Jiang Shouxiang, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Zheng Juxin, professor and doctoral supervisor of the CAA; Roland Schar, professor and dean of the Dyeing and Weaving Design Department of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD), Paris, France; Elisabeth Brenner Brenner Remberg, president of the Nordic Textile Commerce Association; Steen Halbro, professor of the Dyeing and Weaving Design Department of the ENSAD; Vicki Fong, professor of dyeing and weaving at the Royal Academy of Arts in the UK. The exhibition features 21 groups of works distributed in Exhibition Hall 11 and 12 as well as the Display Hall. The exhibition will be closed on December 12.

Themed “Imaging Future”, this competition explores the states of imagery, technology, people and the future, as well as lifestyles through future imaging of patterns. The focus is on the deduction and interpretation of constructed and inherited patterns after they are changed with changing lifestyles. Our cultures, concepts and patterns are sources of visual and sensational possibilities created by imagination and collision in the infinite space of this unknown world of innovation, openness, cross-border and integration. The competition solicited nearly 500 works worldwide, of which 30 were selected as finalists. They ranged from textile, clothing to industrial modeling and products as core creative products designed with pattern creativity. The exhibition emphasized the futurity, originality, fashion, comprehensiveness, and cross-border nature of pattern design; the entries were required to reflect innovative theme concept, systematic and complete design, and integration of technology and art to form a new material and formal language.
