“Glory — Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and Art Exhibition of the 10th Anniversary of the Opening of Zhejiang Art Museum” was opened at ZJAM on the morning of September 29.

Ge Xuebin, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPC (PDZPC); Chu Ziyu, party secretary and director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism (ZPDCT); Gao Shiming, vice president of China Academy of Art (CAA); Liu Ruwen, director of the Literature and Art Division of the Propaganda Department; Hu Chaodong, director of the Office of ZPDCT; Du Qun, secretary of the General Party Branch and deputy curator of ZJAM; Qian Cheng, deputy curator of ZJAM, and more than 100 guests from the art circle, the press and all walks of life in Zhejiang attended the opening ceremony. Chu Ziyu expressed warm congratulations on the opening of the exhibition on behalf of ZPDCT! He also expressed heartfelt thanks to all walks of life that have been concerned about the development of arts in the province. Chu Ziyu noted that ZJAM was built under the direct care and support of General Secretary Xi Jinping when he worked in Zhejiang. Over the decade since its inception, driven by the Zhejiang spirit that makes it an important place in the country, ZJAM has always followed the guidance of Xi Jinping’s socialist thought on literature with Chinese characteristics in the new era and solidly promoted the development of arts according to the requirements of the Provincial Party Committee for further deepening the “Eight Plus Eight Strategy” and for starting a new journey in the path of reform and opening up.

It has achieved gratifying results and made important contributions to the building of Zhejiang into a cultural province. Over the past 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, under the correct leadership of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, Zhejiang has undergone earth-shaking changes and achieved remarkable achievements that attract worldwide attention. Workers at ZJAM voluntarily assume the responsibility of “casting Chinese style and shaping the national image” by depicting the new era with brushes. They have created a large number of excellent ideological and artistic works of art. The magnificent works remind people of history, unfold a glorious picture of Chinese people “forging ahead without forgetting their original aspiration”, fully demonstrate the fruitful arts achievements in Zhejiang, and witness the great changes to the great motherland over the past 70 years. Finally, Chu Ziyu hoped that ZJAM would stay true to its original mission and continue to make new contributions to the building of Zhejiang into a cultural province in line with higher requirements.

Gao Shiming expressed warm congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the opening of ZJAM on behalf of CAA! He said that ZJAM has quickly built rich and distinctive art collections, introduced many high-quality exhibitions to the whole country and the whole society, and made brilliant achievements within mere ten years. ZJAM is not only a highland for art collection, display and communication, but also a site of social arts education that fosters beautiful souls. The decade has made it an important practice platform in the building of Zhejiang as a culturally strong province. Gao Shiming pointed out that Zhejiang has a “national-level team” in art creation which includes professors and alumni of the CAA. Over the past seventy years, several generations of artists in our province have been anchored in life and conducted a series of in-depth researches and creations around such subjects as great historic moments, the spectacular landscape in the great motherland, and changes in the lives of ordinary people. Their works carry extremely rich social messages, historical connotations and significant meanings of the times. They are visual odes to the 70th birthday of New China.

The exhibition is jointly organized by PDZPC, ZPDCT, and CAA, and is hosted by ZJAM. Focusing closely on the theme of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, it displays with the language of visual arts the history of the CPC leading the Chinese people in an arduous but great struggle to found the New China, to move from “standing up” to “getting rich” and “becoming stronger”, and to stride forward to the great rejuvenation of the nation. The exhibition is divided into four sections: “Birth of A New Country”, “Struggle for Prosperity”, “Reform and Opening Up”, and “A New Chapter of the Times”. More than 70 works of art, mainly from the collections of ZJAM, are exhibited. These works are the products of artists in various periods who inherited traditions, observed life, and made brave innovations. They are ideologically and artistically excellent works that show the artists’ artistic approach of paying attention to real life, reflecting social development and expressing the spirit of the times, as well as their mission and responsibility of “serving to people quality products and leading a moral fashion”.
