Ge Xuebin, deputy director of the PD-ZPC and director of the ZPFB, delivering a speech

At the opening ceremony, Ge Xuebin, deputy director of the PD-ZPC and director of the ZPFB, delivered a speech. He stressed that Zhejiang is the starting point of the red boat of the Chinese revolution and an important birthplace of Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. He pointed out that this exhibition centers round the theme of celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, showing the brilliant course of the party leading the Zhejiang people through revolution, construction, and reform to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with great paintings as the medium and depicting the great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era in a rich and colorful manner. He also indicated that the exhibition makes full use of the rich resources of the “red revolution heritage” and the red art resources in Zhejiang and tells the party’s century-old stories vividly as a precious tribute to the centenary anniversary of the party. He urged that we must adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, be a good inheritor and guardian of the “red revolution heritage”, and write a new chapter in the important journey of faithfully implementing the “Double-Eight Strategy” and striving to create an “important window”.

Diao Yuquan, a member of the Party Group and deputy director of ZPDCT, delivering a speech

Diao Yuquan, a member of the Party Group and deputy director of ZPDCT, indicated that in the centenary anniversary of the party, this exhibition features works about selected major events, key scenes, important figures, and advanced models in Zhejiang over the past century since the founding of the party to vividly display the party’s struggle, achievements, and glory over the century through cultural and artistic media. He emphasized that hosting this art exhibition based on the theme of red revolution to celebrate the centenary of the party is highly necessary and significant as the whole party is intensifying the study and education on party history. He hoped that artists would put their original aspiration into practice with this event as a carrier, forge ahead, guide and lead the cultural and tourist sectors in the province to dig, protect, and inherit the “red heritage”, carry forward the “red tradition”, inherit the “red gene”, tell the century-old classic stories about Chinese revolution and new stories about the modernization of Zhejiang, express the aspirations of hundreds of millions of people, portray the glory of the great era, and contribute to the construction of a demonstration zone for common prosperity.

Professor Zhang Minjie of CAA delivering a speech

It was a precious experience to create a work to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the party. I read and studied the party history as I created my work. While studying a large number of documents, I was once again deeply inspired by the revolution history. The title of my work was “The May Fourth Movement in Zhejiang”. The "May Fourth Movement" was an anti-imperialist and anti-feudal patriotic movement launched in Beijing in 1919, but how many major historical events, important figures, and other stories appeared in Zhejiang during this movement? I finally chose 10 of my works that could vividly present the scenes of the May Fourth Movement in towns, rural areas, schools, factories, docks, and many streets and lanes in Zhejiang. At the same time, I continued to explore the techniques of printmaking language in my creation.

Thematic creation must be based on the real history, figures, and social backgrounds of the times, with an eye for even small details like costumes. In my opinion, most of the works displayed in various thematic exhibitions to celebrate the founding of the party are magnificent, while ZJAM has made a good decision to choose small works of historical narration which are especially suitable for presenting historical events from multiple perspectives. This is a particularly unique concept and an excellent model for thematic exhibitions!

Xu Huiquan, a member of the council of Chinese Artists Association and vice chairman of Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Cultural and Literary Circles, delivering a speech

Exhibitions to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China have been unveiled one after another all over the country. However, ZJAM throws a unique exhibition that follows its own curatorial philosophy and characteristics that are different from the universal trend of grand narrative. This exhibition is small but exquisite, extensive, excellent, and informative. Historical stories that people are delighted to hear and that cater to the public aesthetic are told from many perspectives through arts works. While creating my work, I described in five scenes the history of the Yaqian Peasant Movement in Xiaoshan. I used a story-like painting language and narration from multiple angles to make the work more acceptable to the public. I hope that the audience can understand the century-old history of the Communist Party of China more comprehensively after watching the work.

This exhibition receives contributions from painters across the country and covers a complete range of fine arts. The paintings in small series allow artists to give full play to their own characteristics and artistic individuality. As a member of the art museum circle, I highly appreciate the exhibition! As a participant, I would like to thank ZJAM!
