Lecture

No matter how its boundaries are re-defined, architecture still provides shelter, erects structures, organizes movement as well as ideas, stimulates perception and engages culture. How do we proceed? As architects, what are we supposed to do? Moreover, how do we learn to speculate creatively, in a conjectural way?

Design-build is a typology of study, a typology of practice and a typology of production. The scope of the design-build is, as much designing and building as it is research. Design-build is not practiced ad-hocism. Design-build is not unmediated practice. Pedagogy is not antecedent to or preparatory for practice but implicated in it, particularly where practices take on public, community-based or collaborative form, or when the work is understood as open, incomplete, performative...contingent and worldly.
