ZJAM Is Invited to Attend the Xiuzhou Modern Fork Painting and International Art Invitation Exhibition and Guides the Construction of Model Villages in Art Education

On November 16, the 2023 China Xiuzhou Modern Folk Painting International Art Exchange Conference and Xiuzhou Modern Fork Painting and International Art Invitation Exhibition was opened in Zhenzhong Village, Wangdian Town, Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing City. ZJAM was one of the guiding units of this event. Du Qun, Secretary of the General Party Branch and Deputy Curator, Director Hu Chao and Zhu Haixiang of the Public Development Department, as well as Wu Jiaqi and Bai Limin, members of the Art Education Practice Group of ZJAM, participated in the event and discussed the construction of the model villages in art education with more than 20 artists, experts and scholars from Spain, Greece, South Korea and other countries.

In her speech at the opening ceremony of the event, Du Qun said that: the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has recently released six typical experiences and practices of Zhejiang in leveraging culture and tourism to support high-quality development and build demonstration districts of common prosperity. These included “promoting high-quality resources sinking to grassroots in the program to ‘leverage the power of culture and art’”. As an important part of this program, the development of model villages in art education initiated in Zhejiang Province is intended to deepen the program of “Building One Thousand Demonstration Villages and Improving Ten Thousand Villages”, strives to support the development of the provincial brand “Picturesque and Dynamic Zhejiang”, and puts forward the innovative general idea of “empowering villages with art and seeking common prosperity through art education”. Since its inception in 2019, this initiative has cultivated a total of 181 model villages, bringing excellent art education resources and allowing villagers to better share the benefits of high-quality cultural development by providing art education in rural areas, training rural art talents, sending artists to station in villages, promoting digital sharing, and introducing art industries. Adding art education to rural construction not only promotes the development of the local cultural and tourist economy, but also improves the quality of life and happiness of villagers.

After the conference, the delegation led by Du Qun visited Zhenzhong Village and Luodong Village in Xiuzhou District and put forward measures and suggestions for the construction of local art education. Lately, Zhenzhong Village has been included in the “Second Batch of Model Villages in Art Education in Zhejiang Province” and becomes an epitome of the initiative. In recent years, Zhenzhong Village has explored the role of art education in lighting up the road of rural revitalization by excavating cultural resources associated with Zhu Yizun, a famous scholar born in the Qing Dynasty in Jiaxing, and building “Master Studios” and “Village Head in Charge of Art”. It is aimed to become an international art village through efforts made in multiple dimensions, such as improving the local features, activating the rural resources, training art education talents, and constructing cultural and creative industries. As a result, the AAMA International Art Center, the first demonstration rural art museum, and an art research center have been built to strengthen the cultural and creative industries, enrich and add new connotation to the rural and folk customs, and promote the rural culture to a new height in Jiaxing.
