“‘Visual Traps—Slide in Between Atoms’: Exhibition of Sandro Sanna and Donaro Piccolo” Is Opened at ZJAM

On the afternoon of December 13, 2024, the opening ceremony of “‘Visual Traps—Slide in Between Atoms’: Exhibition of Sandro Sanna and Donaro Piccolo”, jointly organized by ZJAM and the Cultural Office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Shanghai, was held in the central hall of ZJAM. This exhibition is a cross-year exchange exhibition launched by ZJAM and will last until February 13, 2025.
Distinguished guests attending the opening ceremony included: Mrs. Tiziana D’Angelo, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai; Mr. Francesco D’Arelli, Director of the Cultural Office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Shanghai; Lin Yongyi, Second-Level Inspector of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism (ZPDCRTT); Liang Bing, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division of the ZPDCRTT; Wang Yue, Deputy Director of the European Affairs Division, Department of Foreign Affairs of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government; Wang Chao, Deputy Director of the Third Comprehensive Business Division of Qianjiang Customs; Wang Han, Fourth-Level Senior Officer of the Third Comprehensive Business Division of Qianjiang Customs; Min Han, Vice Dean of School of Intermedia Art, China Academy of Art; Xia Shangzhou, Deputy Director of the CAA Art Museum; Du Qun, Secretary of the Party General Branch and Deputy Director of ZJAM; Huang Shouyao, Deputy Director of ZJAM; Shu Wenjing, curator of the Exhibition; and the participating artists Mr. Sandro Sanna and Mr. Donato Piccolo. The opening ceremony was hosted by Ying Jinfei, Director of ZJAM.
At the opening ceremony, Lin Yongyi, Second-Level Inspector of the ZPDCRTT, Mrs. Tiziana D’Angelo, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, and the participating artists Mr. Sandro Sanna and Mr. Donato Piccolo delivered speeches successively. Afterwards, Du Qun, Secretary of the Party General Branch and Deputy Director of ZJAM, presented collection certificates to the participating artists for donating their works to ZJAM.

Lin Yongyi, Second-Level Inspector of the ZPDCRTT, said in the speech that 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the China-Italy Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and 2025 will witness the milestone of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. As a national key art museum, ZJAM has always shouldered the important mission of promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. At this pivotal moment, this exhibition, serving as a cross-year exhibition launched by ZJAM from 2024 to 2025, has written a new chapter in fostering mutual integration and learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations.

Mrs. Tiziana D’Angelo, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, said in the speech that 2024 has seen flourishing bilateral relations between Italy and China. This year, unprecedented exchanges in literature, art, and music are materialized between the two countries, which has also laid a solid foundation for future cultural exchanges between them. The Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Shanghai has already engaged in cultural exchange and cooperation with institutions such as the CAA Art Museum and the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music since this year. The opening of this exhibition under the partnership with ZJAM sparks new opportunities for cooperation with the cultural and artistic community in Zhejiang. She believed that by taking this as an opportunity, we will usher in more splendid Italy-China exchange activities in 2025.

In their speeches, the participating artists Sandro Sanna and Donato Piccolo expressed their gratitude to the Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Shanghai, ZJAM, and curator Shu Wenjing for their support and help to this exhibition. Both artists shared their excitement in immersing themselves in the preparation and arrangement of the exhibition while experiencing the brilliance of Chinese culture in Hangzhou. Mr. Sandro Sanna described ZJAM as a magnificent temple of art, where he felt inspired to hold the exhibition with an open heart. Mr. Donato Piccolo spoke of Hangzhou as a beautiful city. Walking under the shadow of trees in the late autumn, he felt a wonderful world unfolding before him, sparking new creative inspiration.
